Sex offenders with profiles on MySpace.com arrested
Seven convicted sex offenders who had profiles on the social networking web service MySpace.com have been arrested.
The police said that this was the country’s first large-scale crackdown of registered offenders who use the social networking Web site.
The initiative was carried out by the Texas Attorney General’s Cyber Crimes and Fugitive units.
They were only successful in this mission after MySpace.com agreed to release a list of names of offenders with online profiles to the state Attorney General’s Office.
They had earlier refused to comply with the request saying that they would have to break laws to release such a report.
