Apple already working on cheaper variants of iPhone?
Market sources are claiming that Apple has already started working on cheaper variants of their upcoming Apple iPhone mobile phone device.
American Technology Research analyst Shaw Wu has said in a note that he believes that the company is reacting to the market pressure to make such a move.
Apple launched the iPod Shuffle and iPod nano players after launching the regular iPod to meet the demand of the people who wanted a cheaper solution.
He said: “Apple needs to round out its iPhone product line at lower price points (similar to iPod) if it expects to replicate the success of its iPod with sales of 100 million units.”
Wu added that he has also received news of: “lower cost iPhone prototypes for release at unspecified future dates” from his sources in the market.
He further said about the appeal of the Apple iPhone: “We believe one overlooked advantage iPhone may have over other smartphones is that when making calls, its virtual dialer has no extra clutter, and it is likely easier to dial unprogrammed phone numbers than on fixed QWERTY keyboards.”

This reminds me of a patent from apple that I saw on google patent search that looked exactly like a small iPhone and had a numbered keypad on the back of it.

Following the iPhone rumors then release on my site, I cannot help but think that Apple could sell this design concept (even without the touchscreen) until the market is literally flooded with several versions of the iPhone. They could do anything, e.g. the rumored iPhone Nano with tactile controls at the back and no touch screen. This design concept is so simple, the true hype is the multi-touch screen. Think of iPod as just a slim MP3 player with a clickwheel. The iPhone is just a widescreen phone with Mac Os inside.
