Singapore Telecommunications launches MobileMail service
Singapore Telecommunications has announced that they have now become the first operator in the Asia Pacific region to offer free email services to its post-paid subscribers.
The company has launched this new service named MobileMail which would allow the subscribers to send and receive emails on their mobile phones for free .
However, these mails would be accompanied with text and graphic advertisements which would become the source of revenue for the company to provide this free service.
Singapore Telecommunications added in its statement that the subscribers would be able to manage their email profile and set up multiple accounts on their mobile phone.
They would also be able to have their emails ‘pushed’ from their Yahoo, Gmail and Hotmail addresses.
The company further ensured: “Care has been taken to place the advertisements in such a way that they will be unobtrusive and not break the flow of the email messages. The service … is the first advertising-based mobile email service that will deliver real-time email for the mass market.”
Trevor Adey, chief executive of Consilient added: “Mobile phones are always with people and they are always on, making it an advertiser’s dream come true.”
They are the developers of the technology powering the MobileMail service from Singapore Telecommunications.
