Adobe release fixes for Acrobat applications

Microsoft was not alone to release a security update to one of their applications this week (they updated the firewall, which was shipped with Windows XP). Adobe also released patches for their portable document format related applications Acrobat and Acrobat Reader. These update fixed the issues reported by security intelligence firm iDefense.

The glitch was related to.etd files used in eBook transactions. The flaw could have resulted in possible execution of malicious code on the user’s computer. The details were released on Tuesday by the security firm and Adobe has surely reacted fast. There were two more flaws, which Adobe fixed in this update. One related to possible execution of malicious Flash code play in a PDF file. The second one is related to the PNG library.

Secunia rated these flaws in the Acrobat applications as ‘Highly Critical’. And recommend users to update the affected software as soon as possible to get the necessary fixes. Adobe itself recommend users to update to the 6.0.3 versions. However, no exploitations making use of these flaws have been reported yet. Get the necessary updates from the Adobe Website.
