Bajaj’s first car to be priced between Rs. 2-5 lakhs
Bajaj is one of the leading two wheeler manufacturer in the Indian market. The company has now announced their plans to get into the four wheeler segment by launching a compact car.
The car is not likely to be cheap and would be priced between Rs. 2-5 lakhs. They plan to showcase it at the upcoming Auto Expo show in January next year.
Bajaj describes their planned product as a “four-wheel passenger vehicle” and it is not going to challenge the upcoming Rs. 1 lakh car from Tata Motors.
Bajaj’s Managing Director Rajiv Bajaj spoke about this upcoming product: “We are aiming to come up with a concept passenger vehicle by January 2008 and if the response is good, it will take us three years to go in for commercial production.”
He added: “The engine, transmission and platform that we build will be the basis for our passenger vehicle.”
The company also is planning on a commercial launch of a four-wheel goods carrier by 2009. Bajaj added that they are entering this small car segment in the Indian market considering not many companies are developing products to cater this market section. Except for Maruti and Tata Motors, few companies have definite products to cater to this segment of the market.
