Apple iPhone would get activated from Apple iTunes application

Market analysts are hoping that Apple would change the way consumers buy and use their mobile devices.

And one of the major factors is the process taken to activate a mobile device. Apple and AT&T have announced that the owners of the upcoming iPhone device would be required to activate the phone themselves using the iTunes application.

This means that the customer would be required to have a PC or a Mac at home running Windows or Mac OS X. Linux users? Apple is ignoring them!

But, this also means that the customers would not have to wait in a store to get their phones activated…

Apple claims that activating the iPhone would take only minutes as iTunes would guide the user through simple steps to choose their service plan, authorize their credit and activate their iPhone.

Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO added in a statement: “Users will be able to activate their new iPhone in the comfort and privacy of their own home or office, without having to wait in a store while their phone is activated. There are tens of millions of people in the US who already know how to sync their iPods with iTunes, and syncing their new iPhone with iTunes works the same way.”

Randall Stephenson, chairman and CEO, AT&T added: “iPhone’s user-driven activation is another example of how AT&T and Apple have partnered to bring innovative new features to our customers. iPhone’s innovative activation and sync is just one example of how this is going to be a real industry game-changer.”

Very cool indeed.
