Universal Music has reportedly declined long term Apple iTunes deal
Market sources have said that the world’s largest music company Universal Music Group has now declined to sign a long-term deal with Apple related to their iTunes service.
This could potentially result in an exclusive deal for the company with another digital media store.
Universal is likely to continue to offer their catalog of music and videos on the Apple iTunes store on a monthly basis. They have artists like 50 Cent, Mariah Carey and Black Eyed Peas in their offerings.
This decision taken by Universal would be a big blow to Apple as it would lessen their appeal in the digital media retailing market.
Apple continues to dominate the market with more than 70 percent market share of all digital music sold in the United States.

Or it would be a blow to Universal’s sales… And it would be non-trivial to spin the combination of “we’re losing money because people are pirating our music on the internet” and “we’re not licensing our music to Apple because they won’t let us charge more than what we charge the purchaser of a CD for a song”. If we’re not allowed to gouge the customer, then we just won’t sell anything!
true…
