Wikipedia might be considered as an unreliable source of information for it is editable by anyone and everyone on the web, but its popularity is growing at an impressive pace.

As per latest statistics, the web based encyclopedia project has added about 20 million unique monthly visitors in the past year.

The report released by Nielsen//NetRatings said that the stats makes Wikipedia the top online news and information destination.

Wikipedia had 46.8 million unique visitors in May this year. This is up 72 percent from June 2006.

Wikipedia also continues to dominate Landmark Communications’ Weather Channel website by a pretty comfortable margin.
