Metal Gear.a Virus targeting Symbian Phones

Looks like the time has come when mobile users would have to seriously consider getting some protection for their devices. Mobile viruses are coming out pretty regularly now and trend seems to be pointing towards a frantic future. The latest news in is that an anti-virus company SimWorks International has discovered a new virus that affects mobile devices powered by Symbian operating system.

The virus has been named Metal Gear.a virus and it pretends to be the Metal Gear Solid game for Symbian devices. Users who are fooled into believing the file and install it might find their anti-virus applications disabled. Worse, the file browsing applications are also said to be blocked by the virus. The virus later installs another malicious code called Sexxxy.sis, which tries to spread further through Bluetooth connections. And can potentially lead to disabling of some of the critical functionality of the device.

A recent virus also targeting this particular operating system and was nicknamed Skull. SimWorks have updated their anti-virus application to detect this particular new discovery. Makers of the Operating System Symbian have also promised to keep their customers updated about these viruses with alerts.

Seems like the war on the mobile platform between the virus makers and the security companies have begun. And as a user of these devices, take as much protection to keep them safe as you do for your desktop machines.
