HCL BREAKS THE ONE TERABYTE STORAGE BARRIER IN COMPUTERS

Launches India’s first ‘One Terabyte’ Personal Computer

New Delhi, July 16, 2007: Continuing with its legacy of spearheading the introduction of world’s latest computing technologies for the customers in India, HCL Infosystems Limited, India’s premier information enabling company and the country’s largest PC manufacturer, today announced the launch of India’s first personal computer with One Terabyte hard drive capacity, focusing on designing and animation professionals and consumers who use and store multimedia content such as personal videos, home movies, high-definition pictures and music.

Powered by Hitachi Global Storage Technologies’ recently launched Deskstar® 7K1000 hard drive, industry’s first hard drive with One TB capacity, the new HCL PC has been introduced in two flavours, entry level and a high-end Digital Content Creation Workstation. These PCs offers ten times more average storage space than other PCs available in the market today. The entry level PC ships with Intel Core Two Duo processor, One GB RAM, 17” Flat Panel Monitor, HCL EC2 Technology and HCL Active Management Console. Digital Content Creation Workstation comes loaded with Intel Core Two Duo processor and a special bundle of Quadro FX 1500 and Adobe Production Studio Premium.

One TB capacity allows consumers to store as much video, music, photographs and other data as they want. It is a boon for the enterprise customers undertaking data-intensive projects in graphic designing, animation, publishing and video editing etc.

Mr. George Paul, Vice President, HCL Infosystems Limited said, “HCL has always read the technology adoption trends of Indian consumers ahead of time, and introduced advanced computing technologies to meet their emerging demands. Our launch of India’s first One Terabyte PC, armed with Hitachi’s record-breaking Deskstar 7K1000 hard drive, delivers unparalleled storage advantage to enterprise users working on storage-intensive applications across industries, including publishing, designing and production houses.”

“Today’s consumers are living digital lifestyles and are always demanding more hard drive storage capacity for their videos, music and photographs; all of which consume large volumes of hard drive space. These new PCs will take care of all their storage needs and ensure that they no longer have to worry about running out of disk space,” Mr. Paul added.

HCL BREAKS THE ONE TERABYTE STORAGE BARRIER IN COMPUTERS

“Hitachi GST and HCL have been working closely for the past two years on several new initiatives like the Leaptop Notebooks, Infiniti Performance Servers with 15K RPM drives etc.,” said James Ho, Managing Director, Asia Pacific South, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies. “HCL’s PCs with the Hitachi Deskstar 1TB drive is another step in strengthening our relationship and offering a high-performance solution to the technology-savvy Indian IT consumer.”

HCL has announced ready countrywide availability of the these PCs, with the entry level model priced at Rs. 35,000 and the Digital Content Creation Workstation at Rs 99,000.

Technology has taken rapid strides in recent years. In 1969, storing one terabyte of data would have taken 1,25,00,000 of then available 8” floppy disks, covering approximately 60,000 sq. ft. of area to store these floppies.
