Ford India too interested in a cheaper car but not that cheap

Ford Motor’s Indian unit has said that they are indeed interested in making cheaper cars for the Indian market.

These cars are essential for any company to generate massive sales in this fast growing automotive market.

Ford India however said that they are not going to make a car as cheap as USD 3000 which has become the talking town in this market.

The Indian automotive market is largely dominated by smaller cars. Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai and Tata Motors are the leaders in this segment of the market.

Tata is in fact working on launching a car that is going to cost around Rs. 1 lakh by next year. That launch itself can change the market scenario completely.

Ford India Pvt. Ltd.’s Managing Director and President Mathews said in a statement on their plans: “At the moment, I’m not looking at that ($3,000) kind of price. I’m looking at a small car but not at that price point. I look forward to seeing what the (Tata) vehicle looks like. I’m not being so categorical, I’m just curious as to what this car will look like.”
