Apple iPhone initial activation figures disappoint

Apple has just released some details on the initial response to their recently launched Apple iPhone mobile phone product.

The company released figures which showed that fewer people than expected signed up for service in the first two days of launch.

Apple stated in its release that it activated 146,000 iPhones on June 29 and 30. This is much less compared to figures of around 500,000 estimated by the market analysts.

As a result, the company’s stock took a beating at the market. It fell down $8.81, or more than 6 percent, to $134.89.

Ingrid Ebeling, an analyst with JMP Securities had this to say about the figures released by the company: “It’s just had such a run on over expectations, I don’t see this as any sort of disappointing metric in terms of the iPhone overall. I think it’s just gotten a little over hyped over the past month.”

Apple is likely to have more information for the analysts on the iPhone’s sales in its third-quarter earnings report on Wednesday.
