Porsche to develop a hybrid version of Cayenne
Porsche is known for their fantastic sports cars. The company is now planning to go eco-friendly as they have now announced their plans to launch a hybrid version of their Cayenne sports utility vehicle.
The company this week in Stuttgart demonstrated to the media a Cayenne SUV hybrid prototype.
This vehicle could be ready for mass production by the end of the current decade.
Porsche said that they are targeting average fuel consumption figures of 9.8 liters/100 kilometers in the New European Driving Cycle and about 24 miles per gallon in the US FTP cycle for this under development hybrid Cayenne.
This would mean that this upcoming variant would reduce the fuel consumption of the Cayenne by as much as 23 percent over a conventional model.
The company claimed that this new variant would also emit at least 20 percent less carbon-dioxide into the atmosphere than a gas-powered Cayenne. However, being an SUV it is still likely to remain more polluting compared to a conventional car.
