Google to provide free web services to Sprint Nextel WiMax subscribers

Search engine giant Google has said in a statement that they are collaborating with Sprint Nextel to provide free services to the customers of their WiMax network.

Google would be providing services like web search, interactive communications and social networking tools.

They would be jointly offering these services through a new mobile portal they plan to build. The two companies would be sharing the revenues generated through online advertising.

Nick Holland, a senior analyst with Aite Group spoke on this new development announced by the two companies: “Google’s partnership with Sprint signifies one of the many avenues that the company is taking to enter the wireless space, with other paths bypassing mobile network operators entirely. It is likely that Google will become increasingly prevalent in the mobile domain, already offering a plethora of services such as navigational tools, mobile specific search, email and instant messaging.”
