Google expects YouTube copy protection technology to be ready by September
Search engine giant Google has stated that they expect YouTube to have its recognition technology in place by September to prevent uploads of copyrighted material on the service.
This was mentioned in a statement by the company lawyers to the judge in a case related to copyright violations.
Google’s lawyer Philip S. Beck added that the company is working very hard on this technology and they are working along with major content providers on this video recognition technology.
He claimed that this upcoming technology would be as sophisticated as the fingerprint technology used by the FBI.
Google faces several lawsuits related to YouTube and the copyrighted videos hosted on the service by its users.
These lawsuits have been filed by companies including Viacom, The Football Association Premier League Ltd. and Bourne Co.
Viacom lawyer Donald B. Verrilli had this to say in response: “Perhaps the filtering mechanism will help. If so, we’ll be very grateful for that.”
The company is claiming $1 billion in damages for the copyrighted violations of their material on the Google owned YouTube service.
