Linden Lab now bans Gambling in the Second Life
Linden Lab are the developers behind the popular Second Life virtual world service. The company has now announced that they are now banning Gambling related activities on this service.
Incidentally, this is a surprising move from the company which has been till now ignoring what the users do on Second Life.
In fact a company blog post stated earlier this year: “It has been a basic tenet of Second Life that all residents are legally responsible for their own activities and for complying with the laws of the local jurisdiction in which they reside.”
However, they are now under quite a lot of pressure after the US Government banned online gambling in the country and the company could have faced interrogations from the FBI for their role in the process.
Second Life’s new policy states that the games which rely on chance or random number generation to determine a winner, or rely on the outcome of real-life organized sporting events, and provide a payout in Linden Dollars or any real-world currency or thing of value are no longer allowed.
