Eminem publisher has sued Apple over downloads over iTunes
Eight Mile Style is the publisher of Eminem’s music and they have now filed a lawsuit against Apple for their iTunes digital media store where that music is being sold online.
They have filed this lawsuit for selling the songs without taking their permissions.
Apple has an agreement with the Universal Music Group which owns the recordings but they do not directly deal with the publishers who actually owns the rights to the scores and lyrics.
Eight Mile Style, and copyright manager Martin Affiliated are now seeking more than $75,000 for copyright infringement, unfair competition and a violation of the Michigan consumer protection act from Apple Inc.
This is not the end. The companies are also demanding damages of up to $150,000 per infringement. This includes every download of the song from the Apple iTunes store.
Eight Mile Style administrator Joel Martin claimed that the lawsuit talks about as many as 70 to 80 songs. Apple is yet to comment on this fresh lawsuit.
