GoDaddy wants to take over operations of .us domains

World’s largest domain registration company GoDaddy has said that they now want to take over the control of the much neglected .us domain names.

The company is collaborating with “.info” operator Afilias Ltd. to bid for this contract.

.us domains are currently controlled by NeuStar Inc. which won the contract in 2001.

The challenging companies are claiming that NeuStar has done little to make .us domains popular in the US market.

As a result, most companies continue to prefer .com domains to launch their web identities.

Roland LaPlante, chief marketing officer for Dublin, Ireland-based Afilias said in a statement: “Now is the time to change (the `.us’) leadership and put it on a growth track.”

NeuStar has responded by saying that they had rather have quality domains on .us suffix. It further claims that they have managed to operate “.us” with “the highest levels of security, stability, technical expertise and policy compliance.”
