NASA sends Space Shuttle Endeavour to space with a teacher on board
NASA has successfully send their Space Shuttle Endeavour to the Space. The shuttle launch took place at 6:36 pm as per their scheduled time.
NASA mission commentator Rob Navias spoke on the launch: “Morgan racing toward space on the wings of a legacy. For Barbara Morgan and her crew mates, class is in session.”
With this Barbara Morgan became the first teacher to go to space. NASA said that the launch was perfect and they faced no technical glitches.
Commander Scott Kelly had this to say after the launch: “We’ll see you in a couple weeks, and thanks for loaning us your space shuttle.”
The shuttle is scheduled to dock with the International Space Station on Friday.
NASA Administrator Mike Griffin had this to say about this historic launch which is taking a teacher to space: “I don’t want to minimize the symbolic significance of Barbara’s flight. I think it’s emotionally grabbing for all of us. But at the same time, I would remind you that on NASA’s employment rolls, Barbara is an astronaut who used to be a teacher.”
