BBC iPlayer becoming a problem for UK ISPs
BBC recently launched their iPlayer application which can be used by their subscribers to check out television programming online.
However, this new service is becoming a problem for ISPs in the country who believe that the new multimedia iPlayer may increase in demand for bandwidth.
The software player uses peer-to-peer technology to enable users to share the data downloaded on their machines with other users.
It has the capacity to use up to 300 megabytes of bandwidth per hour of usage.
A BBC representative has said that they are in regular discussions with ISPs regarding the costs of downloading video.
The company added in a statement: “Inevitably, some ISP packages will be more suitable than others for the download of large amounts of data.”
