Nokia joins Broadcom and Qualcomm patent battle
World’s largest mobile phone maker Nokia has now joined the legal battle being fought between Broadcom and Qualcomm in the US market.
The company said in a statement that they have asked the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC) to bar the import of some Qualcomm chipsets in the US market. Nokia claims that these chipsets are infringing five Nokia patents!
Nokia added in their statement: “The patents in question relate to technologies that improve the performance and efficiency of wireless communication devices as well as enabling lower manufacturing costs, smaller product size and increased battery life.”
It further stated: “These technologies are important to Nokia’s success as they allow its products to have competitive advantages over those of competitors.”
Nokia is claiming that Qualcomm is infringing on their patented technologies in certain GSM/WCDMA and CDMA2000 chipsets.
