USA sends out most SPAM mails in the World
Microsoft’s Bill Gates might believe that SPAM mail would be history in 2 years time. AOL might have found that their servers are getting fewer SPAM mails than the last 5 years. However, it still remains one of the biggest problems on the Internet. Consuming precious bandwidth and wasting tons of PC resources. The latest reports are not providing any relief either.
Sophos, a leading anti-virus maker have released some findings, which claim that USA accounts for almost 42% of spam mails sent out this year. They have released a list of ‘dirty dozen’, which contain 12 of the top countries where SPAM originated in 2004. South Korea and China came distant second in the list. Both of them combined sent only half SPAM mails as the states.
It might show that Anti-Spam laws in America have not worked as expected. However, experts say it is more due to lack of security on most desktop computers. They are easy target for spammers who install backdoor programs on their PCs. And broadband connections on these computers are used to send spam mails. This might have resulted in countries with high broadband density like South Korea getting into top three in the list.
The antivirus company recommends that people should avoid buying software advertised in SPAM mails as they might contain similar programs to exploit insecure computers. Of course, running software attachments from unknown sources is also not recommended.

The article seems to lump trojans and spyware in with spam. Regardless of what anyone does to their PCs, they or their ISP must still filter out spam (which accounts for almost 600 e-mails a day in my inbox). Instead of listing the top (or bottom) 12 countries, why not list the names and addresses of the top 12 spammers. I would think that would direct the proper “attention” to the problem. I doubt any court in the world would find 12 people who would do more than thank someone for ridding the planet of any one of these maggots. Better still, why not organize a boycott of any business that supports them or attempts to profit from this kind of “advertising”.
Ummm, I dont think confusing spyware that sends spam with spam accomplishes anything. Grow up and understand that spammers do not send spam with their real addresses, and companies like Sophos use only unsolicited emails to discern their statistics.
