eBay: Skype has not been attacked
Online auction giant eBay has stated that their VoIP service Skype has not been attacked. Skype is facing uptime issues since the last couple of days which has made it impossible for its users to connect to the network to make calls.
There are rumors in the market at the online service has been attacked by Russian hackers who have taken down the service which is popular around the world.
The company said that the problems faced by eBay are connected to problem in a Skype networking algorithm.
Reports claim that some code was uploaded on a Russian security discussion forum which could have been used to knock the service offline through a denial of service attack.
Andrew Storms, director of security operations with nCircle Network Security said in a statement that the code was designed to repeatedly launch Skype and overwhelm the server with information but it is not likely that it would bring the entire network on its knees.
