IBM Corp. and TDK Corp. to work together on MRAM technology
Tech giants IBM and TDK have announced that they are now going to work together to develop higher-capacity, more compact MRAM chips.
The two companies said that they would together study how to use “spin momentum transfer” to make the cells that store data smaller.
This should result in development of smaller chips with higher capacity. This would help them popularize this standard.
This kind of memory uses tiny magnetic fields rather than electrical charges to store data. It is designed to retain data even if it is turned off.
It is better compared to flash memory as the data transfer speed is higher. But the current generation of MRAM chips are available in small capacities.
