Playboy U social networking portal launched
Playboy is one of the many media companies which is struggling to compete with the growing popularity of the internet.
They have just now launched their latest initiative to fight the slowdown by launching Playboy U. This web based service is a social networking site dedicated solely to college students.
Sources say that the site features tools and facilities similar to Facebook which is one of the largest social networking services on the net.
Scott Stephen, executive vice president of operations for Playboy’s entertainment division said in a statement on this new exciting development: “This is one brand that is relevant to 18 through 81-year-olds. We’re looking at this as a way to introduce and escort someone through their adult life.”
Market analyst Rick Munarriz had this to say: “They definitely haven’t had the blowout kind of success that you would expect a big brand like Playboy to have. The brand seems to be having some kind of renaissance around the world yet, financially speaking, it’s not really contributing to the top and bottom line.”
