Nokia phones to come preloaded with Microsoft goodies

Microsoft has signed on a major deal which could create problems for Google in their mobile applications division.

World’s largest mobile phone maker Nokia has announced that it will start pre-installing Microsoft internet applications on its phones from early next year.

The aim is to boost revenues from mobile services powered by Microsoft technology. Yahoo and Google are other two companies which are working with mobile companies to get their applications preloaded on mobile devices.

Nokia said that owners of Series 40 handsets will find Windows Live Hotmail, Messenger, Live Contacts and Live Spaces installed on their phones starting next year.

They are also going to provide an update for five phone models this week.

This initiative is valid for 11 countries including Britain, France, Germany and Spain. Steven Knuff, a Nokia spokesman added in a statement: “These aren’t just applications that will sit in the background of your phone. They will integrate and intertwine fully with your phone. This is about converging the fixed and mobile internet so that users just think of there being one internet, which they access from a single platform.”

Steve Berkowitz, senior vice president for Online Services at Microsoft added: The availability of Windows Live services on Nokia devices demonstrates our commitment to extending people’s online lives from the PC to the device.”
