How can the entire iPhone buzz be justified?

The iPhone buzz says that Apple’s iPhone SIM lock system has been cracked. It will be available to a larger audience by getting out of the single carrier, AT&T Inc., restrictions. The blog disclosing the steps to follow to crack the SIM lock has been posted by a 17 year old , George Hotz of Glen Rock, New Jersey. The Apple’s iPhone that integrates the touch screen interface is available only in US markets and after unlocking, the iPhones, can be sold and used overseas. Many who bought the unlocked iPhone are confirming the blog.

There are laws in US to protect games decoding but no rules to protect cell phone unlocking .The skills like soldering and wiring has been used by Hotz, and after following some simple steps as given in the blog the iPhone was unlocked.

AT & T and T-mobile are the major US phone companies and other are the smaller carriers using GSM. AT & T is compatible with iPhone and GSM is popular in Europe and Asia. The unlocking may result in Apple loosing royalties on their phones and roaming getting cheaper for users having unlocked phones.

The process to hijack has been open to all and the SIM – chip method does not involve soldering but with an equipment and reprogrammed chip can be used in iPhone. The features that are enabled on unlocking are the camera and ability to access Wi- Fi networks. The visual voice mail doesn’t work on unlocking.

Apple may need to work towards Hotz’ work. But Apple is reluctant to take any steps to stop this. IPhone has plans to launch the phone in Europe and it is concentrating on marketing of the phone outside US. According to iPhone company the methods used to hijack the phone cannot be practiced by anybody and may result in damage to the phone if done by anybody with no knowledge. The company is not in contact with Hotz and is expecting nobody else will try to unlock the iPhones as Hotz did. The company has no plans to make changes in the set and take any step against the unlocking of iPhones
