BMW could start assembling X3 and X5 SUVs in India
German luxury auto car maker BMW is quite happy with their performance in the Indian market.
The company seems to be now considering plans to start assembling its sports utility vehicles (SUV) X3 and X5 here in India.
Market sources say that these facilities could be in place by middle or end of next year.
BMW is currently importing both these SUVs through the CBU (completely built units) route. As a result, these are being sold in the market for quite a high price.
If they start assembling these vehicles in India, they could price them much lower and generate more profits.
BMW India is incidentally already assembling 3-series and 5-series at its plant in Mahindra World City near Chennai.
The company however did not confirm these reports circulating in the media. Peter Kronschnabl, president, BMW India had this to say: “At the moment, we have no plans for any expansion as we’re looking to stabilize on what we’re doing.”
