Apple launches video download service through iTunes in UK
This is good news for Apple fans in England. The company has announced the launch of video downloads service in the UK.
This was expected since a long time and the company has finally made available the updated iTunes service in Britain.
The company said that they are currently offering 28 series for download including episodes of Lost, Desperate Housewives and Ugly Betty.
The service is at the moment offering little local content but Apple said that more content is expected soon.
Apple is charging £1.89 per episode for download on this service. The videos would be playable on the iTunes player and users would be able to upload them to their iPod Videos.
JupiterMedia analyst Mark Mulligan had this to say on this new development: “Video content in the US has clearly not been as strong as music in terms of both the breadth and depth of what is available and in terms of how much is being sold. It is a natural partnership and UK companies have shown a willingness to experiment with online video distribution but a lot of questions remain over things such as usage rights and how to differentiate content.”
