BigFlicks.com: Video on Demand service for India
India now has its own Video on Demand online service. Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group (ADAG) has launched a new online service named BigFlicks.com.
The company is specifically targeting this service at the NRIs living all around the world who wants to get access to Indian movies.
BigFlicks.com would be offering streaming movies for free. Users would also be able to purchase titles at prices ranging between $2 and $16.
The service already has around 1,000 titles in languages including Hindi, Kannada, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and Punjabi.
Reliance is aiming to double the catalog in the coming months.
ADAG further announced that they are planning to exclusively launch the UTV’s ‘Fear’ movie through BigFlicks.com.
Rajesh Sawhney, president, Reliance Entertainment added: “In mature economies, the demand for home entertainment is increasing with the rising income level. A typical Hollywood movie generates more revenues through home entertainment than through theatrical distribution, while in India home entertainment contributes in low single digits to a movie’s revenue. That is because we lack effective home entertainment platforms.”
