YouTube ban lifted in Thailand
Web users in Thailand can finally access the Google owned video sharing website YouTube in their country.
The Thai government has finally agreed to remove the ban on the site after Google/YouTube agreed not to allow offending videos to be uploaded on their service.
YouTube was banned in the country after the company refused to remove some of the user posted videos which mocked the Thailand’s revered monarch, King Bhumibol Adulyadej.
Thai Information and Communication Technology Minister Sitthichai Phokai-udom confirmed that they have now removed the ban on the service.
Google in its letter to the government had said this: “We have the deepest respect for His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. We likewise respect Thailand’s law and tradition and hope that we will be able to reach a mutually acceptable resolution to the current controversy.”
