Amazon Digital Media Store expected to be launched in September

Media sources are claiming that the online shopping giant Amazon is likely to launch their digital media store in September.

Amazon has not commented on this rumor yet but they had said that the store would be opened before the end of the year.

The report was published by New York Post which cited unnamed sources closer to the company.

Amazon is likely to offer the songs in MP3 format which would be free of any DRM restriction.

The aim is to provide an alternative to the Apple iTunes store which is the market leader in this segment and also one of the largest music retailer in the US market.

Apple is also selling some of its media in MP3 format through its collaboration with EMI.
