Acer joins the Blu-ray Disc Association
World’s third largest personal computer maker Acer has now announced that they are joining the Blu-Ray Disc Association.
The company becomes the latest member of the group which already has around 170 consumer electronics manufacturers, computer companies and content providers.
Acer is incidentally the number one notebook brand in Europe and is growing at an impressive pace.
Victor Matsuda, chairman of the organization’s Global Promotions Committee said in a statement on this new development: “We are delighted to welcome Acer to the Blu-ray Disc Association.”
This is good news for the companies supporting the format as they face intense competition from the group promoting the rival HD DVD format.
Sony is the primary developer of the Blu-Ray format while HD DVD has been developed by Toshiba.
