Internet is often hailed as the greatest thing to have ever invented by human kind. It has connected the various parts of this world in such a way that you feel there are no boundaries or distances. It has helped saving life in the medical field, and it has helped in keeping people in touch with their relatives long distances away.

The latest and perhaps one of the biggest of its kind in quite sometime havoc caused by the Boxing Day tsunami waves is becoming a prime example on how Internet can contribute in helping people with technology. Throughout the world, people have expressed that they want to contribute in helping the suffering people and Internet have given them a way to do so.

Websites are taking active part in gathering funds for the relief through the medium of the Internet. Search engines like Google and Yahoo! and e-Stores like eBay and Amazon are giving users options to donate money to the organizations working for the welfare of the Tsunami sufferers.

Online transactions are helping gathering the funds in fast and safe way from far off places. Disasters Emergency Committee is an umbrella organization setup by a coalition of 12 charities and is involved in collecting charities online. Reports say that they have collected around ₤8,000,000 with average donations of more than 10,000 per hour.
