SanDisk announces uSSD 5000 solid state drive for low cost machines
SanDisk has announced their uSSD 5000 solid state drive which they have specifically designed for low cost machines.
These storage drives are smaller than typical 1.8″ and 2.5″ solid state drives and measure just 27mm x 38mm.
They have been developed in capacities ranging between 1 to 8 GB. And they use a USB interface instead of SATA.
They have also been designed to be embedded on the motherboard itself and as a result they would not be sold as separate products.
Intel’s classmate PC is going to be one of the first mainstream product to use these storage disks.
The company claims that these drives are “less expensive than even the lowest-capacity conventional hard disk drives”.
