4 billion telephone connections in the World today!
The International Telecommunications Union has said in a report that the world now has around 4 billion telephone connections.
This has been possible largely due to the growth in the developing nations like India where millions of new customers are being added every month.
The number has in fact quadrupled in the past decade. The report stated that the world currently has approximately 1.27 billion fixed lines and 2.68 billion mobile accounts.
This number does not however represent the number of telecom users worldwide considering a lot of people have both form of communications.
The report further stated that 61 percent of the world’s mobile subscribers are in developing countries. China and India accounts for a large number.
The report also said that there are approximately 1 billion internet users worldwide.
