Telecom giants to develop new mobile standard

The need for hi speed data transfer to transmit videos and similar data has led to an agreement signed by the world’s leading mobile carriers and telecom giants to develop an advanced protocol for the purpose. Japan’s NTT DoCoMo announced that they would raise the ball game by developing technology, which would send high-resolution video in an instant.

26 top companies including some high profile companies like Britain’s Vodafone Group, Germany’s Siemens, France’s Alcatel and Japan’s NEC and DoCoMo have signed the agreement. All these have decided to support this emerging standard to popularize it internationally. This technology aims to extend the current speed levels available on todays networks by almost 10 times.

They are optimist that the basis of these new technologies would be ready sometime by the year 2007. However, the actual release and availability is something no one has taken the risk to predict a date for. Japanese operators aim to get this technology to public as early as 2009 by investing heavily in the required infrastructure to meet their targets.

This technology would increase demand for even high ability mobile phones, which would let users play complicated network games over the Internet, and see movies streaming from the web. All these companies want the technology to advance while costing to remain affordable.
