BMW Mini Cooper to cost Rs. 20 Lakh
BMW has announced that they are indeed on track to launch its premium small car BMW Mini Cooper in the Indian market sometime next year.
BMW India President Peter Kronschnabl said in a statement on their plans to launch the Mini in India: “BMW is expected to launch the BMW Mini Cooper in FY09 at a price tag of Rs 20 lakh.”
He added: “We see a 30-35 per cent growth in the luxury car market in India.”
The company is already producing their BMW 3 series and BMW 5 series sedans in petrol and diesel variants at their plant in Chennai.
They are also selling their 6 Series and 7 Series luxury sedans in the market as completed built-up units. BMW is also on track to bring their X5 SUV model in November this year.
The BMW Mini Cooper has no rival in the Indian market. There were reports in the media that Maruti was planning to introduce their Suzuki Swift Sports edition in India as an import. No confirmations on that.
