Clear Channel Radio to support Apple iPods
Clear Channel Radio has announced that they would soon start offering high-definition digital radio broadcasts on the Apple iPod range of digital media players.
Apple iPod owners would be able to access the content using the Polk Audio’s I-Sonic Entertainment System 2.
They would also be able to purchase songs broadcast in HD digital radio using this service from the Apple iTunes.
Clear Channel Radio President and CEO John Hogan had this to say on the new developments: “Apple has been a strong supporter of radio, previously making an FM tuner available for the iPod, and we view their support of HD digital radio as an enormous opportunity. All of our FM stations broadcasting in HD digital radio will be available on these important and unprecedented devices. With substantial gains in online and on-demand programming already under our belt, there should be no doubt of radio’s ability to constantly evolve and embrace new technology. The iPod is not a competitor to radio; it is a collaborator in connecting with consumers on a continual basis.”
The company currently broadcast more than 400 stations in HD digital radio and more than 300 additional HD2 multicast channels and supporting iPod user base is going to greatly enhance their user base.
