Network Appliance files a lawsuit against Sun Microsystems
Maker of computer storage systems Network Appliance have filed a lawsuit against Sun Microsystems.
They are claiming that Sun infringed upon their patented technologies and released the code under an open source license.
Experts believe that this lawsuit is critical and could decide on what happens when open sourced code end up including patented technologies.
Network Appliance Chief Executive Dan Warmenhoven said in a statement that they are asking the courts for a declaratory judgment against Sun. They are also seeking a permanent injunction to prevent further infringement and unspecified damages.
Sun has responded in a statement saying that the lawsuit is a direct attack on the open-source community.
