Amazon to launch Kindle e-book reader
Online retailing giant Amazon is set to be working on launching their own e-book reader named Kindle.
This was reported in a news item from The New York Times. This reader is expected to take on similar products from Sony which have failed to generate much interest in the market.
This rumored e-book reader would display pages in black and white but would feature wireless connectivity to download books.
Amazon is expected to offer this device for between $400 and $500. The interesting thing is that they are going to offer some preloaded content on the device to showcase its usability.
It is also said that the device would be able to support RSS format to download news content from “major” newspapers. This should further enhance its appeal to the general public.
Another interesting thing reported is that the device would also be able to surf the web making it useful for general internet usage.
However, it is expected to use proprietary “Mobipocket” software for displaying the e-books instead of the more popular formats available in the market.
