Prince planning to sue YouTube over unauthorized use of music
American pop star Prince has said that he is planning to file copyright lawsuits against YouTube and other websites for unauthorized use of his music.
He added that these lawsuits would be part of his effort to “reclaim his art on the Internet.”
Prince further claimed that YouTube cannot really argue that they cannot control what content is uploaded on its servers.
A statement from Prince added: “YouTube … are clearly able (to) filter porn and pedophile material but appear to choose not to filter out the unauthorized music and film content which is core to their business success.”
YouTube had this to say in its response to the claims made by Prince: “Most content owners understand that we respect copyrights, we work every day to help them manage their content, and we are developing state-of-the-art tools to let them do that even better.”
YouTube chief counsel Zahavah Levine added: “We have great partnerships with major music labels all over the world that understand the benefit of using YouTube as another way to communicate with their fans.”
