Nokia to work with rival companies on standard flash memory card
World’s largest mobile phone maker Nokia has announced that they are now going to work with rivals including Samsung and Sony to work on a flash memory card that would be compatible with their future products.
This new generation of memory cards are expected to be ready by 2009 and would be based on the new Universal Flash Storage specification.
Nokia said in its statement that this new format reflects the industry’s need for a universal memory solution that removes the need for adapters to accommodate different removable memory card sizes.
It would be compatible with future generation of handsets, digital cameras and other consumer electronic devices.
It would also be designed to cut the access time for media from these storage discs reducing the time from minutes to a couple of seconds.
Some other companies to work with them on developing this new format include Micron Technology Inc., Spansion LLC, STMicroelectronics NV and Texas Instruments Inc.
