Hewlett-Packard to offer solid state hard disks on business laptops
Hewlett-Packard has announced that they would soon offer solid-state drives (SSDs) as an option in all professional series laptop PCs.
These would be made available as optional upgrades starting next year. SSDs are better than traditional hard disks as they are faster, quieter and they also conserve battery power.
They are also said to be more durable compared to regular drives. However, they are currently available in smaller capacities and cost a whole lot more.
HP would begin by offering 64GB NAND flash memory drives in products it announced earlier this month. These were the HP Compaq 2710p, 2510p, 6910p, and 8000 series.
However, picking up a solid state hard disk would add up around USD 1000 more on the laptop price. Prices are expected to drop in the future as mass adaption would make them cheaper to produce.
