iSuppli: New iPod nano even cheaper to manufacture for Apple
Market research firm iSuppli has said in a report that the recently launched iPod nano digital media players are even cheaper to manufacture for Apple.
The report stated that the new iPod nano cost the company around $58.85 for the 4 GB model and $82.85 for the 8 GB model.
Apple is selling these two models in the market for $149 and $199 respectively. Of course, this costing is for the component parts only. Apple spends a lot on research and development and marketing.
As per the company, these new nanos are cheaper by around 19 percent compared to the previous generation models.
iSuppli added that these new models feature components from several new companies. The most notably being Micron Technology Inc.
iSuppli said on this fact: “Such wholesale supplier swaps are not unusual for Apple, which frequently switches its component partners. With Apple, it seems, no supplier is safe, and no slot is a given.”
