Blu-Ray Disc gets support from Gaming Industry Biggies
Sony has announced that they would be using Blu-Ray Discs for their next generation gaming console PlayStation 3. Now, two more gaming giants Vivendi Universal and Electronic Arts have announced their plans to support this high capacity storage format which is competing to become the next standardized storage medium for computers and electronic devices.
HD-DVD is the other competitor vying for this honor. It has been developed by Toshiba and is supported by entertainment giants like Warner Bros., NEC, and Paramount. However, in recent days, many big corporations have decided to go for Blu-Ray disc standards.
Both these formats store much more information than current generation DVDs. Blu-Ray can handle a massive 25GB data (double if the disc is made dual layered) while HD-DVD stores around 15GB (again… double that if the disc is made dual layered).
Other supporters for the Blu-Ray format have been Warner Bros., NEC, and Paramount. This new victory might give them the edge when it comes to PC Industry considering EA alone counts for some of the biggest successful title series in the history of computer gaming.
Microsoft and Nintendo are some of the few names still to decide which standard to follow. But with Sony taking the Blu-Ray path… They might find themselves literally short of space if they decide to support HD-DVD.
