Virgin Digital shutting down in UK and USA
Apple iTunes might be facing newer competition in the form of NBC Direct service launch but several existing players are quiting the race to become a dominating force in the digital media stores market.
Virgin has announced that they are now going to close down their Virgin Digital stores in both UK and USA. This service provided online music subscription and download service.
The company further announced that the US customers of the service would be able to use their credits on Napster music download service.
Virgin Digital’s media tracks used Microsoft DRM technology and were not playable on Apple’s massive customer base which owned one or the other version of the iPod.
MTV also recently announced their decision to close their own Urge store which they launched with much fanfare in collaboration with Microsoft.
