Piaggio to start engine manufacturing in India by 2009
Italian scooter maker Piaggio has now announced that they are planning to start manufacturing diesel engines in the Indian market by the end of 2009.
Company representative Ravi Chopra said in a statement: “We are creating the facility with a capacity of 200,000 engines. The progress is on schedule. The investment envisaged is in the region of 60 million Euros.”
They plan to manufacture engines for both three wheelers and four wheelers. They are also planning to their parent company in Italy.
They are currently sourcing their engines from Greaves Cotton Ltd and Lombardini in the Indian market.
Piaggio also launched their new line of ape cargo and passenger vehicles.
