AMD wins major contract with Lenovo in China
Advanced Micro Devices Inc. along with PC Manufacturing giant Lenovo won a major contract along with another company Dawning Information Industry to supply computer solutions to a Chinese Province. AMD would be supplying processors to power around 26000 computers. Lenovo, which recently bought over IBM’s PC Division, would be supplying the computers.
The contract would be benefiting around two lakh students in the eastern province of Hebei in China. As per the released details from the company, every classroom selected for the program would receive a server and 30 desktop PCs. All these computers would be AMD powered giving it a major boost over the competition in the form of Intel.
AMD has been concentrating on the emerging markets like India and China in the recent days. They sometime back released a low cost computing solution in India along with tech giant Tata to provide net connectivity to remote areas. China is another major target for the chipmaker.
Hebei in China would become a demonstration for how long distance education can be implemented. The program began in October 2004.
