Imeem to get media content from Sony BMG
Sony BMG has announced that they have entered a deal with Imeem to provide them with its digital music and video catalogs.
This content would be made available to users in the United States and Canada for free.
The free service is funded by online advertisements and the two companies would be sharing revenues generated from this content.
Dalton Caldwell, founder and CEO of Imeem spoke on the deal with Sony BMG: “This agreement with Sony BMG marks the second major label deal and a huge addition to the music and video catalog available to our users.”
He added: “At Imeem, we set out to prove that it’s possible to offer free ad-supported music and this announcement signifies that it’s working for labels, artists, and fans.”
Thomas Hesse, Sony BMG Music Entertainment’s president of global digital business and U.S. Sales had this to say: “We’re excited to be working with Imeem as they develop a new social media model focused on ad-supported, interactive streaming of music and video. We think that Imeem’s focus on community and social networking will make it an exciting entertainment option, and an important means of connecting fans and artists.”
